Moina macrocopa commonly known as Moina or water fleas are very small freshwater crustaceans that make a great live food for fish and other organisms in freshwater aquariums, outdoor ponds or fish breeding facilities. They differ from their cousins, Daphnia, as adults are much smaller in size, ranging between 400 microns to 1,000 microns depending on their stage of life. Therefore they are a great feed for fish fry, fish fingerlings, finiky eaters and smaller fish.
In ponds or waterways, they will feed off the phytoplankton and filter feed the water to help control algae blooms. Moina will do the same in aquariums, however they usually fall prey to the inhabitants of the fish tank. When unthreatened by predation Moina reproduce prolifically and can be grown easily if one chooses to do so.

Hydralife Greenwater is a live freshwater phytoplankton product. This an excellent algae product but is not intented to be used directly in freshwater aquariums as it is a phytoplankton and could bloom in the water column. Hydralife Greenwater is intented to be used to feed and culture your daphnia and moina in separate grow containers from your freshwater aquarium. Greewater is also intended to be used to seed ponds with a healthy phytoplankton that provides the foundation to the food chain of the aquatic ecosystem. Not only does phytoplankton feed organisms like daphnia and moina in your pond but phytoplankton also utilizes the nitrogen, phosphate and other elements that your fish produce in their waist. Phytoplankton also produces and oxegnates your water through the consumption of CO2. Therefore, live phytoplankton in ponds, daphnia cultures or moina cultures feed zooplankton and the food chain while providing filtration and bioremediation to the water column.
